Ekovolt and Microsoft partner on the Affordable Access Initiative
Ekovolt is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Microsoft to deliver affordable Internet access and cloud solutions to underserved communities and small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.
Opportunities at work and at home
As part of Microsoft's Affordable Access Initiative, we are rolling out a series of solutions that will give currently underserved communities and markets access to the Internet at truly affordable prices. There are some regions in Nigeria which are currently not connected as a result of them being in rural, remote or economically disadvantaged areas, and it is our mission to make it possible to connect these regions via Volt Internet services.
We will also help SMEs to access affordable cloud services and bundled products, which will give them the potential to dramatically improve their business processes. We recognize these might be new tools for some businesses. However, we are keen to show cloud computing can enable more efficient and flexible working, giving business owners the opportunity to work remotely without sacrificing access to critical business documents. It makes collaboration between employees or departments much easier, and provides greater security and more disaster recovery options than traditional computing. Bottom-line it constantly connects one directly to employees, vendors, suppliers and customers.
Currently, many small to medium businesses in Nigeria simply cannot afford to set up cloud computing systems, but our partnership with Microsoft will provide opportunity to leverage the same cloud-based technologies as large corporations. With solutions such as Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Skype for Business and applications run on Azure, we can fulfill a wide range of simple to complex computing needs commonly experienced by SMEs.
Making the world more connected
Currently, only 43% of the world has Internet access. In an era in which technology can improve our knowledge, help us communicate more efficiently, and help businesses to expand their reach, it is becoming a real disadvantage to be without Internet access. The Affordable Access Initiative wants things to change, and hopes to give 4.2 billion more people the opportunity to get online and take advantage of Internet and cloud technologies. As Peggy Johnson - Executive Vice President, Business Development at Microsoft writes in her blog building global connectivity, one community at a time “last mile connectivity is a global issue but it requires local solutions.” We at Ekovolt are proud be a local solution provider.
Emeka Ebo, Managing Director, explained "we have always been passionate about providing the very best possible wireless broadband and technology services at the most affordable prices, so we are incredibly proud to be a part of this noble initiative as we truly believe in this and commend Microsoft for leading affordable access globally. We very much look forward to making an impact through the Affordable Access Initiative here at home (Nigeria)."
Commenting on our strategy to increase Internet connectivity in Nigeria, Nathalie Gogue, Director of Strategy explained "we realised that we cannot spend our way towards better rural broadband connectivity due to sparse populations and geographic challenges. Instead, we've had to really innovate and be creative in delivering connectivity via cost effective and reliable technology. We are invested in this as we conduct trials and future deployments in TV white spaces."
Volt Internet plans are designed to deliver dedicated and reliable Internet connections to businesses (small or large). We also have a wide variety of scalable technology solutions - from email and web hosting to secure shared online work spaces and storage which can help enable businesses to grow and succeed.
